Van Millwork celebrates its participation in Boston Design Week and the unveiling of its newly renovated Design Center. You’re invited to come tour our award-winning showroom while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, drinks and music.

Originally opened in 2006, the design center provides a comprehensive walk through of nine period-specific, architecturally themed suites featuring interior millwork; mouldings, doors, stairs and mantels that appeal to a range of tastes and styles to demonstrate how architectural details can bring character and elegance to a room. The 2500 -square-foot showroom is centrally located in Needham Heights, convenient to 128, Boston and the Mass Pike.

Bolstered by a new look, new offerings and an improved product showcase, Van seeks to build upon its position as a leading provider of interior finishes to the area’s finest builders, architects, designers and their customers.

you-are-invited2-030215 In phase 1 0f 2 in renovations the redesigned space boasts a more intimate, client-centric layout and upgraded displays to elevate the level of design options for its clients; a variety of styles and design ideas to give builders and their customers a hands-on experience.

Among the improvements incorporated by Van are an expanded front entrance area for improved client education, comfort and service; brand new stair displays presenting hundreds of variations and redecorated, furnished vignettes.

The clean lines and sleek appearance of modern design have found their place in many of America’s homes. Contemporary European styles, flat paneled doors, combinations of glass and metals; chrome hardware, stainless steel and cable railings that appeal to a more modern aesthetic are enjoying their own popularity with consumers. To meet this growing demand and shift from traditional to contemporary to clean, simple, straight lines Van installed a beautiful, sleek, new modern suite.

Recalling the contemporary master, Marcel Breuer, Holly Joe of Holly Joe Interiors, incorporated modern white leather and chrome chairs that glow against the textured grass cloth wallpaper. An organic, freeform wood coffee table radiates warmth, while the modernistic chandelier enhances the crown moulding. Touches of Lucite, stone and air plants, complement the fresh, modern décor.

An Interview with Jon Van by Kyle Hoepner, Editor-in-Chief of New England Home Magazine

Jon Van of Van Millwork reflects on the work of providing doors, moldings, stairs, mantels, built-ins, and the many other architectural details that contribute so much to a home.

What, typically, is your role in a design team assembled to create a new room or house?

In general, our job is to assist the design team in finding the most elegant and cost-effective solution to meet their design goals. We offer feedback and make product suggestions based on our knowledge and experience. Take interior doors, for instance. There are many factors to consider in choosing a door: the design, of course, but also the type of construction—how it is manufactured—and different price points. Then there are issues of availability and lead time, especially if people don’t start looking at interior finish until very late in the project (which can be a big mistake).
